Interactive Digital Installation
Last Thursday, Peter Forde gave us a very nice presentation. He talked about the interactive digital installation and performance, and Pure Data which is a graphical programming language for the creation of interactive computer musicand multimedia works. This presentation gives me many fresh ideas about Digital Arts, especially the explanation of interactive installation which makes me so excitedJ The area of digital arts as an open source, it can collaborate, share or augment by other creative piece of art. More and more digital artists are considering the role of viewers in art works, Because of the support of some interactive installation and program, audience can play an important role in digital arts final show. Additionally, it can create many possibilities and different results to the show by the participant. Thus, audiences can get the actual experience and physical interaction through interacting with art works.
Text Rain is a good example of digital interactive installation which participant use the familiar instrument of their bodies to play with digital letters. Using a virtual environment, in a monitor or projection screen, audiences can physically changed the font, size, shape, and movement of the falling letters that shows on the screen by shifting their bodies. Through it, viewers can get entertaining and educational experience.

By the way, I really enjoy Peter’s MA final work which using Pure Data program and PD is very magical and attractive. However, I still feel very difficult to understand this programming language. If it is possible, I hope Andy can talk more about it.
Renaissance! A movable sumptuous visual feast!
I don’t know whether or not you have watched this movie-<Renaissance>, if not, please, have a look at it. It is really worth to watch. This animation produced from France and it only uses two colours: high-contrast stark blacks and whites. Maybe you will think that it is similar as Frank Miller’s < Sin City>, but it really has unique style. It used CGI to place on real actors in a 3D world, through using motion-capture software to perfectly reflect realistic human’s movement and behaviour in 2D animation. In the content of this movie, you will found that the director unwilling to make his movie in same style as <Sin City>, so he decrease the violent and pornographic elements. Unlike <Sin City> which reflect the dark of violence and crimes in modern city, < Renaissance > focused on present the crises that technique brought to human being.
In this movie, light and shadow are play the most important roles. The animation combined culture and comic book style perfectly, which style is influenced by both Japanese manga and Hollywood animation.Additionally, the plot is also intelligent and realistic, which makes you feel you are in the comic book.

Finishing Premiere course study
These days, I borrowed a Premiere Pro course book from library, and keep studying it by myself. Today, I eventually finish it. Please don’t be surprised, I know……I am the last one who finished know how to use this software. The book is really helpful and quite clear. So, it is not very hard to study it. The following day, I will try to make some short videos for practice. Last week, Andy shown some videos of his project, he uses 3D animation and 2D video to present the impression of building, architecture and space. In my mind, his video not focusing on description or record, but using abstract image and colour to express his own feeling and own definition about his project. I really like some segments in his video, although he seems use many effects, the entire video is consistent and definitely conform to one principle. In my project, I want to create and draw the entire visual footage by myself; I think……it must be a lot of pictures……
