The prototype of final show
In the final installation, different with my previous proposal which aims to present 3D effect by projecting 2D animation on Transparent Screen, I would like to build a light environment which can be influenced by physical elements of audiences. I would like to set up five layers of Transparent Screens in cross way and every point of intersection of each layer in about a right angle, which would be projected by a projector in a sealed dark room. Light images can be transmitted from the first layer to the last one. Moreover, rather than expressing the meaning of art work, I want to offer real feeling and physical experience to viewers. In my work, I keep exploring how to make viewers have an active influence and experience of creating meaning on information or art works by adding to it or changing it. Therefore, in the final show, different with original idea that audience only can view the screening, now, they can walk around the equipment to view how their moves affect the changes of ray. Thus, the gap between work and audience can be broken by allowing free physical elements to be an important part of this work, which idea was inspired by many interactive installation art works. Furthermore, I want to explore the ideas of space and duration of ray by observing the process that ray transmitting through Transparent Screens.

Logo design for our final show
I spent 2 hours to do these design, I want to emphasize this is “our” final show. it would be meaningful for every one in MA digital arts, so, to combine every one’s name togather is an interesting try.
01 CMOS chip with everyone’s name

02 CD or DVD with our name

03 leaflet ( as a CD cover, there is a hole in the middle, allowing one finger through, as holding a CD)

The Groundplan of Final Show
Last week, I examined the results that projecting video onTranspartentScreen. However, the effect is not very good. the first problem is the screens that I chose are too thick, which only allow the video transmit through 2 or 3 layers. Furthermore, the colour of my video is too gray and blurry. I have to reedit it in high-contrast colour. In spite of these problem, I found the combination of several layers of screens is really interesting. I hope I can get big space in the final show, if so, alowing audience walk around the screens would be very playful. the groundplan of mt work in final show is as follow:
The beginning of Unit3
After the tutorial with Andy last week, I feel much clearer about how to continue my project. Last unit, I focused too much on video editing, and ignored the installation of final show. Additionally, after viewing the works of Ian and Alfonso, I found it is really important to make audience to “feel” work, but not only “see” work. Thus, how to build an active light environment is very important. In that tutorial, Andy gave me some very good suggestions, such as allowing audience to walk through the screens, and trying edit the physical material but not software which can build a physical light installation. Follow his suggests, I decided to use black paint martial to draw different geometry pattern on every single screen, and install them crossly. The prototype of final show may like this:
Final Show Prototype
In final show, I will project this video on Transparent Screen to create 3D light environment in a sealed dark room. There are three or four Transparent Screens will be lined up 4 feet away from each other, the projector will display video on all of them and create multiple effects, which can make the changes of looks real and vivid
Erwin Redl’s light installation
The distinction between art concerned with meaning and art as that which enables experiences has become obvious in digital arts. Rather than expressing the meaning of art work, digital artists prefer to provide real feeling and experiencing in their works. Thus, the role of audience are more active, from “viewing” art work to get real “feel” experience. Viewers can have an active influence and experience of creating meaning on information or art works by adding to it or changing it.
Erwin Redl used light-emitting diode (or LED) to deploy a light environment in both two and three dimensions to affect visitor’s senses. By redefining interior and exterior light space, he produced a system of perpetual repetition art work which is no denouement just keep ebbing and flowing. He aimed to examine how his light installation affects viewer’s bodies and senses.

Your space embracer, 2004
A harsh beam of light was directed to shine through a dangling mirrored ring. As the ring turned, a halo of light traveled in a slow-motion promenade across walls and ceiling. Seeming to encompass the space, the circular light morphed into a rectilinear shape as it traversed the room’s angular corner.

Space Embracer from 2004 continues to manipulate and alter light, albeit on a less immersive scale. It uses stage spotlights to beam light through spinning acrylic rings that refract wildly geometric imagery throughout the room. The light directly at the center of the projection forms a perpetually undulating eye of shifting circular color, away from the center, spiraling lines of light blaze sleek designs across the walls.
